HOLIDAY INSPIRATION FOR THE HOME AT A COMPLIMENTARY SEMINAR AT MICHIGAN DESIGN CENTER, OCTOBER 22
TROY, Mich. – Homeowners can learn how to achieve breath-taking holiday décor for their homes by attending a complimentary design event at Michigan Design Center (MDC). MDC will host Holiday Decorating and Entertaining on Thursday, October 22, 2009. The event will be offered from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Michigan Design Center located at 1700 Stutz Drive in Troy. Everyone is welcome to attend.
The Michigan Design Center showrooms will come to life with festive tabletop displays and elegant holiday room décor vignettes. The event will feature 11 of the area’s top designers, partnering with fabric and furniture showrooms and local florists. Designers will be on site from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. to answer questions and offer guidance on adding seasonal flair and inspiration to holiday and home projects.
Design master, David C. McKnight from Emerald City Designs will put MDC visitors in the holiday mood, from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m., with a repeat performance from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m., by creating a one-of-a-kind, festively- decorated dining room, complete with floral designs and table settings, guaranteed to produce a warm and lasting impression. He will perform magic before attendees’ eyes as he turns a simple room setting in the Mid-America Room into an awe-inspiring holiday display. Meanwhile, his artistic assistants will decorate a tree that resonates with imagination and will be remembered for holidays to come.
Following McKnight’s high-energy presentation, guests can visit with some of the area’s most talented interior designers. Michael Coyne from Michael Coyne Designs will demonstrate how to transform the entire mantelpiece wall surround. Kristen Armstrong from KCID Studio on Park teams with Krave t/ Lee Jofa to create the perfect glamorous dinner party with Kravet’s new dining collection and fabrics from the Lee Jofa Groundworks collection. Donna Brown from Dazzling Designs, LLC will be dazzling MDC visitors in the Grange furniture showroom, teaching them how to create Christmas casual elegance with a French flair in the dining room.
Designers Karen Crorey-Dallafior, ASID, K.C. Interiors, Inc.; Becky Andrews, ASID, Interiors by Becky Spier Inc.; and Judy Welch, ASID Allied Member, Walker Interiors, Inc., will turn an eclectic sitting room in the RJ Thomas Ltd. showroom into an elegant toasting room, a marriage of art, luxury and durability to welcome holiday guests. David McGowen of David McGowen Design creates a shimmering Christmas tree with crystal prisms, clear glass, chandeliers and original art in the Henredon Interior Design showroom.
In the Marie-Howard showroom, Arturo Sanchez and Barry Harrison of Art | Harrison Interiors fashion a beautiful pine library reminiscent of a grand home in Newport – laden with evergreens and ornaments in a traditional color scheme of greens, reds and golds and featuring the new Constance gilded console. Denise Ziya of Designs By Denise delivers a new take on an old tradition, as she shows guests how to design a casual, welcoming environment for the holiday season with a ‘mistletoe and snow’ feel, incorporating peacock blues, chartreuse and cocoa, in the Henredon Interior Design showroom.
Pat Warner, IFDA and Janis Colborne, Patricia Interiors transform a transitional “city” house living room in colors of browns, creams and pale yellow in the de Grimme showroom into an elegant, glimmering, holiday retreat that will please their visitors from November through the New Year. Joan Whitman, IFDA of Joan Whitman Interior Design readies a virtual “city” house in the Robert Allen | Beacon Hill showroom for simple, elegant and eclectic holiday entertaining from Thanksgiving to New Year’s Day.
