When thinking of an

“alfresco” room, typically

one imagines a southern

hemisphere or a Pacific

view, but the optimistic

Midwesterner embraces the

limited fair-weather time

to create rooms evoking

faraway locales.

– Whitney Gillespie

Anne Strickland ,

of

Port MFG & Design ,

has shown an example of an

“alfresco” room that can be enjoyed

year round. With sunshine yellows and

nautical blues, one feels a step away

from a cloudless 80-degree day on

Lake Michigan, when the reality could

be a snowbound afternoon with a

blazing fire and a hockey game on

the television.

By adding outdoor heaters, the dining

area can go from Fourth of July

hotdogs to Thanksgiving in St. Bart’s,

no matter what the temps are outside.
